This is the clearest commentary and description of the actions of this regime that I have heard. Thank you for providing the terms, framework, and most importantly as you assert THE LANGUAGE to address, resist, and attack this effort.
Excellent work! Thank you for this exceptional episode. I assert that we must go on offense and you have provided the needed equipment to aid in that effort.
Thank you for this crucial context for what is happening now. It's the classic filling in the community swimming pool rather than let Black people swim. Blocking every avenue for Black leaders to emerge and participate as leaders in our society IS the goal - even if they have to burn down the whole society to do it. This needs to be explicitly said in every public forum.
Yeah. One thing I could have made clearer, and that I thought of after the episode, is that so many groups made strides after Black Americans broke down barriers-- women, Jewish people, Eastern European immigrants, etc. Shut down Black advancement and you shut down other groups as well.
This commentary was clear, concise, and direct. The backlash from President Obama is real, and your explanation of our current political climate is spot on. We must fight the resegregation of America. Thank you, Ms. Attiah!
Karen, you are so right, it is easy for a white person like me to fall into the belief that "well maybe woke is too far left" which of course is BS! At the end, the US has extended its racist views via cultural entertainment to other peoples and this too must change. I have a Costco membership, it is worth every penny.
Absolutely excellent description of what I’ve been thinking but without anywhere near the knowledge or eloquence to communicate it as you have.
I do not want to live in a segregated world. I do not want the only voices we hear to be the people so afraid of their own mediocrity they have to hold everyone else down. I have family members who will STILL whine that “Obama wanted to take our guns.”
(Spoiler alert they still have their guns).
Thank you for sharing this with us.
I will continue to be a more conscious consumer, and stand up, fight back for all of us.
👋🏾 New Subscriber here. I just seen your interview on MSNBC and was directed here. Thank you so much for being a defender of the oppressed. To find someone courages enough to speak out against the evil in this world is beyond admirable.
As a person who has suffered oppression, torture, prison, slander, harassment, ostracism, with this all being documented, I know how hard it is to fight against these type monsters. Especially considering it gets worse when regular people jump in and defend the oppressors, I know you know 😒 Malcom X said:
“If you’re not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.”
The disinformation that is passed between parties either knowingly or unknowingly becomes just as harmful as the oppressors actions. Please be safe and vigilant. Im praying for everyone who does this “work” to find Angels and empathisers, because we be needing them.💚🙌🏽
“We are not going to shop our way out of this” I like that you stated that. For those who are privileged enough (myself included) telling ppl not to shop at places like Walmart is a good thing to do but it’s not a real strategy. The reality is, in most predominantly black communities Walmart is the only thing we have and Costco is not cheap nor accessible (I love me some Kirkland Signature by the way). Before we jump on board for the latest protest we need to lock in and figure out how we can truly uplift and support one another. Loving ourselves and our community is the key to resistance and in a lot of ways we have to deprogram the anti-blackness that has been propagated to us both overtly and subliminally.
Obama's use of the Executive Order I felt was going to come back on Us. I was proud of him trying to push real changes through that the GOP kept blocking him, but I had the feeling it was going to come back. And Trump has done so. It is one of the few things Obama did that I regret. And just another example of the White GOP weaponizing him.

To truly evolve, we must move beyond the old systems that perpetuate inequality. The NU World Consciousness represents a collective awakening and commitment to equity, justice, and understanding. It’s about creating a new narrative that empowers all individuals and communities.
Thank you for teaching me some things I was never taught in school and certainly should have been. I need to supplement my kids' Texas education! Your episode and another article I read today made me think of a connection between Starbucks and the way this administration is targeting them. Starbucks, Uber and other companies with these diversity initiatives also offer free tuition for their employees (and their family members!). I always thought that was awesomely generous. I hope these programs don't take a hit. So many others and I would not be able to pursue our educational and career endeavors.
Great piece. I have promoted it on Bluesky. That said, I don't think any one explanation is the final word on any political result, including today's Constitutional crisis. I'm sure there are white supremacists who hated Obama, were (and are) angered to be called racists, and voted for Trump in '24 with fear and loathing of a Harris administration. I suspect Trump personally has a more arrogant version of that perspective. I don't know what to think about Musk & Thiel's apparently insane world views.
That said, I think that wealth inequality, irrelevant of race drove Dem complacency and Trump support more than racism. Its also pretty consistent in post election polling that inflation & immigration were the most important issues for Trump voters. I personally think COVID19 cast Trump the 2020 election, and (with an unhealthy dose of ignorance) won him the 2024 election. I certainly could be wrong.

Hi Richard,
Thank you so much! I'm happy it resonated. More to come!
The way you condensed and explained so much in so little time. 🎯🎯🎯
Thank you so much! This is what I hope to do more of!

I appreciate that. Sadly the resistance has been little to none...

Anytime people say "too far"! I ask them what that means and ask them to give me examples and quantifiable data on harms. They never can.

Great first episode. Looking forward to more of your takes.
I so appreciate that!
All of this nonsense, everything we've dealt with from the Tea Party in 2008, was a response to Obama.

Yes. And also, duh. No way the Whiner-in-Chief could’ve won without the continuous racist Obama backlash.
