I am so glad you're teaching this class, and I hope you'll do it again in the Spring when I can join! Thank you for persisting! I think this is the future -- universities are just too elite and expensive, and many of us want to study under one particular person who may be teaching at a university but we also don't want to go into debt taking a whole curriculum. Grateful that you made the most of what happened, and turned it into something wonderful and accessible.

Thank you for leading the resistance, Karen! Glad you are teaching the best ways to fight fascism. We should keep singing the no kings anthem at protests: https://democracydefender2025.substack.com/p/no-kings-anthem

Thank you for the class. I learned a lot. And it led to dialogue with friends and fellow highschool graduates from 55+ years ago about what we didn't learn then , or in college and even what some of us have done since to make up for that lack of knowledge.

This is sad but nothing happens by chance you are destined for greatness and I think you will find a new weapon to help the people who are frightened as Trump intends to make war on anyone that doesn’t support his reality. Knowledge in action is wisdom. Trump intends to dumb us down, this will wise us up.

I’m a retired D.C. Police Intelligence investigator who worked alongside Tribal Elders and the U.S. Secret Service to study the Tecumseh Prophecy and the Zero-Year curse on the presidency — the tradition that predicted the death of every president elected from William Henry Harrison (1840) through John F. Kennedy (1960). Chief Tecumseh, grievously wounded and determined to protect his people and the land, issued a survival prayer aimed at shielding Indigenous communities from the ravages of invading forces. That prayer became entwined with a pattern that has echoed through American history.

Lakota Elder Russell Means once managed to pause that prayer in order to allow Reagan to end the Cold War. Later, when a proven lie in 2020 led a president to refuse the peaceful transfer of power, the prophecy — viewed by many as a protective safeguard — rebooted. It acted as North America’s last line of defense against a rogue leader who would place the republic itself at risk.

The prophecy’s power has always depended on Indigenous people remaining connected to their survival prayers through two sacred dance rituals — rituals that were once banned by the government. To adapt to changing times, Russell Means invited Chief William Commanda to update the prayer. Commanda expanded the invocation to include the ancestors of those immigrants born in North America, reframing the petition not as a call for death but as a demand for full accountability for crimes against the U.S. Constitution and the people. That revision returned agency to the people, linking personal prayer with collective prophecy.

Today the prophecy points to a troubling possibility: it names the current president as the eighth occupant of the office will die in office. We are not seeking a martyr. Our focus is precisely the opposite — on truth, exposure, and justice. We are calling for the release of the Epstein files and for victims and witnesses to come forward with new evidence. That single act of truth could unite every child born in North America and restore the moral center of our nation. Let me know if I can help you in anyway. Bless you

Please do a course on fascist rhetoric. Here is Jason Stanley's syllabus for the seminar on Language and Power he taught at Yale, before he quit to take his young biracial family to Canada.

It is also the precursor of his book on language and power, much recommended.

You could start by analyzing Erika Kirk's, Trump's and Stephen Miller's speeches at Charlie Kirk's Star Wars cantina funeral. Ouf.

Thank you for this. Prof. John McWhorter recent essay on Trump’s warring language and mindset was great. He aims to militarize the psyche against political alternatives and dissent. https://sunmoonlight.substack.com/p/erasures-and-cancellations-psychological

Four North Anerican specialists in fascist rhetoric, phil profs Jason Stanley (language and power, fascism), Jennifer Saul (Figleafs, dog whistles, tactics of fascist/racist rhetoric from the last 70 years of Republican public speaking), Jennifer Mercieca (She listened to all of Trump's speeches and analyzed them along lines of classic rhetoric), and Federico Finchelstein (how North and South American populism morphs into fascism: think Peron/Evita/Erika Kirk).

This is such a powerful idea. What you’re building isn’t just a class, it’s a space to unlearn what we’ve been taught and start seeing clearly. Resistance Studies feels like exactly what’s needed right now. Excited to see where you take this.
